Dorothy Louise Jansen Anderson, 88, of Chapel Ridge, formerly of 184 N. Bennett St. passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 peacefully, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born December 8, 1926 in Buffalo NY, she was a daughter of the late Allen S. and Irene (Holmlund) Jansen. She was a 1945 graduate of Bradford High School and earned her Bachelors of Science in Home Economics and Child Development in 1949 from Penn State.
In May of 1949 in St. Paul's Methodist Church in State College she was installed as the first President of the newly formed Alpha Kappa Chapter Kappa Phi, a national organization for campus Methodist women.
Dorothy returned to Bradford and from 1950 to 1955 she conducted the Jansen Nursery Pre-school and from 1959 to 1974 she was the Office Manager for Jansen Dental Laboratories.
On July 1, 1955 in the First United Methodist Church she married Maurice H. Anderson, who died on May 27, 2000.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church Bradford and served on various committees and headed the Nursery and Toddler departments. She was a member of and past president of AAUW and the Bradford Women’s Literary Club.
Surviving are several cousins including Jim Holmlund of Northern Ireland, Dave Holmlund of NJ, Nancy Swanson of ID, Jon Holmlund of CA, Steve Holmlund of CA, Mark Holmlund of CA, Jeff Holmlund of TX, Marilyn Wadsworth of NY, Sidney Ponturo of MD and Becky Allen of FL, close friends and caregivers including Linda Flynn, Marlene Zimmerman, Rita Hogan, and Merle Swartzentrooper.
Family will be receiving friends on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., at 11:00am funeral and committal services will be held with Rev. Seth McClymonds, Jr., pastor of the First United Methodist Church and Rev. J. Patrick Lenox Kane District Superintendent of Western Pennsylvania Annual Confrence of The United Methodist Church co-officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the SPCA, the First United Methodist Church or Care for Children.
