Major Richard Clark

Major Richard L. "Dick" Clark, 91, of Emerald Isle, Smethport, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born February 3, 1925, in Washington's Crossing, he was a son of the late Lilburn Lereighn and Freda (Elliott) Clark.

In 1945 he married Florence (Fry) Clark who died April 29, 1991. On May 13, 2000, in Aiken, he married Donna L. Towner Clark who survives.

Dick attended Washington's Crossing High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, served during WWII in France where he was wounded. He received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1945.

When he returned home he studied to be a dental technician. He worked as a lab tech for several years. In 1959 he was commissioned to be an Officer for the Salvation Army where he served for 30 years. He served his entire career Florida and retired to North Carolina.

Surviving in addition to his wife Donna, are two daughters Suzanne (Tony) Barrington, of Yukon, OK, and Christine (Todd) Smith, of Knoxville, TN, two step daughters, Karen(Dave) Parker, of Gifford, and  Linda (Dave)  Rees, of Lakeland, FL, two step sons, Mark ( Denise) Shick, of Waynesville, NC, and Doug (Patty) Shick, of Gifford,  4 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren, 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Family will be receiving friends on Friday August 26, 2016, from 10:00am to 11:00am in the  Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St., where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Frank P. Hill, Pastor of the Overcomers Church of Faith officiating. Committal services and burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesville, NC on August 31, 2016 at 11:00 am with Major David Cope officiating. Full Military Honors will follow.
