Elizabeth B. Gabriel

Elizabeth B. Gabriel, 98, of 5 Brown Ave., passed away, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born December 9, 1918, in Erie, she was a daughter of the late Bernard F. and Rosina (Mader) Brown.

On May 10, 1952, in St. Joseph's Church in Erie, she married Dr. Frederick R. Gabriel who died August 17, 1985. 

Betty graduated from St. Benedict's Academy in Erie in 1936, and from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. Prior to her marriage, she worked at St. Vincent's Hospital as supervisor of the nursery. She returned to nursing at the Bradford Hospital from 1982 to 1984.

Betty was a member of St. Bernard Church, volunteered at St. Bernard School, the American Red Cross and was an avid rosary maker.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Gabriel, Regina Gabriel, and Loretta Gabriel, four sons, Frederick Gabriel, Bernard Gabriel, Nicholas Gabriel, and Dr. Michael Gabriel, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Robert Brown, five sisters, Dorothy Brown, Catherine Brown, RoseMary Brown, Agnes Robie and Dolores Allen.

At the family's request there will be no public visitation.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11:00am in St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Raphael's Cemetery, in Eldred.
