Grant V. Smith, Sr.

Grant V. Smith, Sr. 74, of 29 Babcock Road. passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017, at his residence.

Born September 2, 1942 in Olean, NY, he was the son of the late Victor I. and Savilla Beatrice (Bretherton) Smith. 

On March 22, 2006, he married Elinor 'Ellie' Blasdel, who survives. He was formerly married to Joyce (Piersimoni) Schaming, who also survives. 

He was a 1960 graduate of Bradford High School. On February 9, 1961 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged February 8, 1965. 

After his military service, he worked with his father in his trucking business until 1972. He then began working as a truck driver for Boise Cascade until 1978 and then Georgia Pacific from 1978 until 1997.  From 1997 to 2005, he was a self employed, over the road truck driver.

In addition to his wife Ellie, he is survived by one son, Grant (June) Smith of Bradford; a daughter, Amy (Joe Stabile) Smith of Pittsburgh; two step sons, John Burkhart of KY, and Dan Burkhart of IN; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Connie (Bob) Curcio of Bradford and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Scott Smith, a daughter in law, Julie Lynn (Ludwig) Smith, and two sisters, Florence Tyger and Barbara Smith. 

Friends will be invited to attend a celebration of his life on Saturday, September 2, 2017, from Noon to 5:00pm in the small pavilion at Callahan Park.

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the American Lung Association, Destinations of Bradford or the charity of the donor's choice.
