Mary Lou was defined by a superior work ethic. After graduating from Otto High School in 1944, she worked for Otto Telephone Company, before embarking on a 62 year career as the business secretary, with the Otto-Torpedo Company in Duke Center. She was a former member of the Duke Center E.U.B. Church and was an elementary Sunday school teacher for many years.

Mary Lou loved to bake, garden, style hair, and shop and provide for her family, many friends and those in need of help, but most of all she loved George. Her life was defined by her generous and giving nature.  She and George touched countless lives in Western Pennsylvania and beyond.

In addition to her husband George of nearly 60 years, she is survived by three children, Polly (Ray) Phillips of Kane, Bill Rote of Bradford, Tom (Jackie) Gigliotti of Portville NY, and her “adopted” daughter Betty Spindler of Bradford, her sisters, Isie “Peg” Irons of Atlanta, Ruth Boyle of Duke Center, Wanda Livak of Salamanca, Ella “Beth” Kaczmarek of Duke Center, and her brother, James (Mary Lou) Irons of Eldred, one sister-in-law Mary Jane Gigliotti of Bradford and one brother-in-law Gene Gigliotti of Bradford. She loved all children, especially her 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews..

Mary Lou was preceded in death by one granddaughter Mary Celeste Phillips, six brothers, William Irons, Rex Irons, Gordon Irons, Gilbert Irons, Thomas Irons and Francis Fitzgerald, and two children, John Gigliotti and Terrie (Gigliotti) Piller.
