George E. Stanford

George E. Stanford, 85, of West Corydon St., Bradford, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017, surrounded by family.

Born May 19, 1932 in Bradford, he was a son of the late Ralph and Laura A. (Yeater) Stanford.

George was a 1950 graduate of Bradford High School. On April 17, 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy. A Korean War veteran, he served three years and six months in foreign seas. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal "S" and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged April 7, 1955.

On July 24, 1954, in the Asbury United Methodist Church, he married Loretta L. (Zeigler) Stanford who died November 29, 2011.

He was employed as an Engineer at Corning Glass and later Bradford Electronics culminating in nearly 40 years of service.

George was a member and served as Past President several times, of the Bradford Township Lions Club. He was very proud of heading up the chicken barbecues, one of the most successful fundraisers for the club. He was awarded Lion of the Year in 1989. He was also a member of the VFW Post of Bradford.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheri L. (Michael) English of Atlanta, GA and Judy K. (Mark) Sievert of Green Bay, WI, one daughter-in-law, Rita Stanford of Bradford, one sister, Ruby Rudesill of Johnson City, NY, one sister-in-law, Carol Zeigler of Bradford, 8 grandchildren, Kristen, Lauren, Kaylin, Jillian, Kathryn, Jennifer, Robert, and James, 6 great grandchildren, Jason Jr., Thomas, Peyton, Vivianne, Jocelyn, Evelyn, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Loretta, one infant daughter, Linda Sue Stanford, one son, Roger E. Stanford, three brothers, Oscar, Ralph, Howard, and one sister, Edwina.

Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St., where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, with Rev. Robert Baldwin, Pastor of the Lafayette Evangelical Church officiating. Committal services will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
