Donna R. Carll

Donna R. Carll, 84, of 23 Scott Field Road, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at The Pavilion at BRMC.

Born November 8, 1933 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Jen (Shaw) Stewart. 

On August 20, 1955 in the Methodist Church in Salamanca, she married Albert E. 'Gene' Carll, who survives. 

After graduating from Salamanca High School in 1951, she attended The Bradford Hospital School of Nursing and received her Nursing Diploma in 1954. 

A Registered Nurse for all of her professional career, she began working for Dr. McGrail and then Dr. McCreary and also worked for Dr. Silverstein and Dr. Hamidi.  She then worked for Bradford Hospital as a staff nurse, nursing supervisor and then in the education department.  She retired from Bradford Regional Medical Center in 1996. 

She was a faithful and active member of Church of the Ascension, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Member of the Choir for many years.  She taught Sunday School, volunteered for Vacation Bible School, supervised the Youth Group and was a member of St. Margaret's Guild and the E.C.W.  She was also very active with all church dinners, pancake suppers and hospitality. 

She was active with Community Outreach, volunteered for the American Red Cross, American Heart Association and Planned Parenthood.  She was on the board of Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems for many years. 

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and The Red Hat Society. 

She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, traveling and her generous and faithful spirit inspired her to provide for others in times of need. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Lynette Carll and Melanie (Steven) Woods, all of Bradford; two grandchildren, Desiree (Adam) Long and Alex (Shannon) Woods; one great grandson, Colton Long; a sister in law, Shirley Stewart Ingersoll and a brother in law and sister in law, Duane and Elizabeth Carll; one niece, Pam (Mark) Morrison; three nephews, Todd (Laurie) Stewart, Michael (Nancy) Cercone and Jeffrey (Carol) Carll and several great nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rae Lynn Carll in infancy, a brother Dale Stewart, two nephews, Shawn Stewart and Mark Cercone and a brother in law and sister in law, Angelo and Joyce Cercone. 

Friends are invited to call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM, Thursday, December 21, 2017 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Avenue.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, December 22, 2017 in Church of the Ascension, with Rev. Stacey Fussell, Rector, officiating.  Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to Church of the Ascension or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Gene and family, I was so sorry to hear about Donna. What I remember about her is when we where visiting one time and we went to the church to see her, she was making apple dumplings for a church function that was coming up. Boy, did they smell good. She was a gracious lady and I will not forget her. She gets to spend Christmas with Jesus. Love to all, Charlene
