Charles L. Goble Sr.

Charles L. Goble, Sr., 88, of Bradford, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Born March 26, 1929 in Shippenville, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Mabel (Wolfe) Goble.

He attended Clarion schools. In June 1946, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy, and by October he was assigned to the newly commissioned U.S.S. Toledo in Philadelphia.  The shakedown cruise to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was followed by a world cruise.  He was discharged in 1948 in Seattle, after having “new experiences and seeing places that I may never see again.”

On August 5, 1950, in Clarion he married Helen (Furlong) Goble, who survives.

Charles and his wife moved to Bradford in 1956, and his first job was with Birdwell Oil Services. He then worked for many years for Corning Glass Works, hired as a machinist and then retiring as a foreman in 1987.

Charles was a voracious reader, loved woodworking, and he and his wife traveled extensively in their retirement.  He was a 20-year liver transplant survivor.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years are two daughters, Christine (John) Gallaher, of Hummelstown; Carolyn (Lanny Proffer) Goble, of Denver, CO; one son, Charles L. (Leslie) Goble, Jr., of Bradford; three grandchildren, Alexandra (Stefan) Fesenmyer, of Lancaster; Olivia (Shawn) Disney, of Bradford; and Michael (Henrietta Geitz) Gallaher, of Philadelphia; one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Rose Fesenmyer; and two nieces, Cindy Zoerkler Miller, of Ohio, and Jennifer Zoerkler, of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, infant Charlotte and Phyllis Goble Zoerkler.

Family will be receiving friends on Thursday February 22, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main Street, Bradford. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
