Robert "Jack" Gilbert

Robert “Jack” Gilbert, 74, of Duke Center, local businessman, loving husband, father and friend, died March 5, 2018, in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Born January 1, 1944 in Bradford, he was the son of the late Richard L. and Minnie Arlene (Seeley) Gilbert.

He attended the Bradford Area High school until he enlisted into the United States Army on July 11, 1961. While stationed in Germany with the 1st BN, 38th Infrantry, he served as a fire team leader at “Alpha” Co. He was a member of the ROTA-PLAN boxing team. He was honorably discharged on June 24, 1964.

On April 27, 1965 in Bradford, he married his life time love Kathleen M. (McCann) Gilbert who survives.

Jack proudly own and operated, with his wife Sis, Gilbert’s Lift Truck Service for 47 years, until his retirement in 2008.

Jack aka “Bigfoot” enjoyed racing the #69 car at the Bradford Oval in the early 1980’s. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR, Penn State and Steelers fan.

His greatest joys involved watching and supporting his grandchildren in there various sports and activities.

Jack was a member of the Northern Star Lodge #555 F&AM, and Eldred American Legion Post #887.

He is survived by this loving wife Sis of 52 years, three daughters Michelle (Terry) Rigney of Danville, VA, Connie (John) Cattoni of Bradford, and Barbara (Mike) Close of Eldred, one brother, Richard Gilbert of Derrick City, five grandchildren, Samantha Anderson, Shannon Gordon, Jeffery Cattoni, Dylan Close and Brooke Close, three great-grandchildren Tyson, Eliza and Lady, and several nieces and nephews. A special friend Mark, and Jacks loyal four legged friend Bosco.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jeffery Scott Gilbert who died April 18, 1979, one brother Herman Gilbert and two sisters Peggy Gilbert and Barbara Stroup.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. 372 East Main St. where a prayer service will be held at 9:30am Friday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bernard Church with the Rev. Raymond Gramata, Pastor, as celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded outside the church after the mass. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Members of the Northern Star Lodge #555 F&AM will conduct a Masonic Service at 7:30pm on Thursday, in the funeral home.
