Alfred J. Barr

Alfred J. "Al" Barr, 76, of 1274 East Main Street, Bradford, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born November 15, 1941, in Blossburg, he was a son of the late Chester and Iola Barr.

Al enlisted in the United States Army on January 21, 1966. He was an airplane mechanic with the Airborn Division in Roho Bay, Cambodia during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged a SGT, on January 21, 1968.

On September 11, 1973, in Bradford, he married Virginia L (Wallace) Barr who died September 15, 1999, then on January 26, 2001 in Colts Neck Baptist Church, he Married Marjorie L. (Douthit) Evans Barr who survives.

Mr. Barr had worked for the Railroad, Fairway Ford, Pennzoil and later he became self-employed, owning and operating Barr's Service Station from 1994-2017.

Al was a member of the Bolivar Drive Baptist Church for over 40 years, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was currently a member of the Faith Baptist Church.

He enjoyed growing flowers and gardening, riding his Kubota with Margie and his dog. He was a NASCAR fan with Bill Elliott being his favorite driver.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Michele Barr-Burkett and her husband Tim Burkett, of Gifford, two step daughters, Kathleen Evans-Langford and her husband Jan, of Trussville, AL, and Cindy Monti and her husband Patrick, of Pelham, AL, one grandson, Raven Burkett, two granddaughters Katie Monti and Brooke Monti, one sister Lynn (Dave) Harris of Blossburg and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Arlene Wickman and Virginia, one brother Cedar Barr and one sister Vallie Atwell.

Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc, 372. East Main St. and again on Thursday 11:00 am to Noon at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Gary Smith, Pastor, of the Faith Baptist Church officiating. Committal services and Full Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 108 in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Faith Baptist Church or the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department.
