Arthur R. Shonts

Arthur R. Shonts, a loving and devoted husband, step-father, step-grandfather, brother and uncle, 93, of 535 W. Corydon St. Bradford, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, June 22, 2018, at The Pavilion at BRMC.

Born December 14, 1924 in Grand Valley, he was a son of the late Nelson J. and Lena Anna (Price) Shonts. He graduated from Smethport High School, class of 1942.

On April 25, 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 504th Engineering Shop Company, during the close of WWII. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1947.

On August 27, 1953 in Hazelhurst, he married Adeline R. (Sidonia) Shonts who died December 17, 1990. On July 15, 1995 in Bradford, he married Susan (Shepley) Shonts who survives.

Art returned from the service and worked in the local oil fields including on the Smith-Newton Lease, later the Mulhaupt Oil Company. He retired from Kendall-Witco after 24 1/2 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, birdwatching, working in his garden, woodworking and photography. As a young man he pitched in the McKean-Elk Men's Baseball League.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Susan of 23 years, is one step-daughter, Janice Hopkins, of Irving NY, five grandchildren Steven Kille, Tim Hopkins, Tina Mohart, Tammy Cline, and Traci Lewis, many great grandchildren, one sister, Florence Jean Crum, of Bradford, three brothers, Kenneth (Esther) Shonts, Frank (Nancy) Shonts, all of Bradford, and Jack (Bonnie) Shonts, of Cyclone, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, a step-son, Richard Kille, one grandson Ryan Kille, three sisters, Helen Smith, Virginia Burns, and infant Grace, three brothers Everett Shonts, Donald Shonts, and Ralph Shonts.

Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday June 27, 2018, from 10:00am to Noon in the West Branch United Methodist Church, at Noon, funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Matt Blake, Pastor officiating. Full Military Honors and burial will be accorded by members of the United States Army after the service in the Church. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
