Robert Bob Sage

Robert “Bob” Sage, 93, lifetime resident of Red Rock, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born in Bradford, on December 29, 1924, he was a son of the late Margaret E. (Bovaird) and Enos Harrington Sage. On February 3, 1951 he married the former Martha L. Ledden in Bradford.

Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Force as Air Cadet in World War II. He served with the 2535th Base Unit receiving the American Theater Service Medal, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He attended local schools and then Georgetown University and Grove City College where he graduated.

Bob worked at Speer Resistor until 1958 and then went into partnership with Pete Pfhol.  Together they combined E. W. Hardware and Supply with Ruth Bros., Inc. and rebranded as the popular Tool “n” Toy, Inc.  Later they acquired J.C. Jones and Supply and relocated the entire Tool “n” Toy operations to the Jones and Supply location on Bolivar Drive. The operation changed brands again to Sentry Homecenter, Inc. and relocated to its final location in the old Market Basket grocery store on East Main Street.

Bob retired from Sentry Homecenter in 1979 as General Manager. He proceeded to establish SER Oil, Inc. with his brother, Enos B. Sage and operated stripper production leases in and near Red Rock until 2016.

Mr. Sage was a lifetime member of the Bradford Gun Club, a 60+ year Free Mason, Lifetime member of the Bradford Post of the American Legion, past President and member of the Pine Acres Golf Association, past member of the Pennhills Club and past member of Pennsylvania Independent Petroleum Producers (PIPP).

Surviving are two sons, Robert “Mike” and his wife, Nancy, of Nashville TN, and Kevin and his wife, Katie, of Grapevine, TX., and several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his lovely wife, Martha L. Sage, six sisters:  Mary Lou Sage, Eleanor Sage, Margaret “Peg” Bryner, Joanne Shaw, Nancy Paton, Karolyn Betts and one brother Enos B. Sage.

Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Bob's Life on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 10:00am at the Model T in Derrick City with Rev. LeRoy Beckes, retired Presbyterian minister, followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the United States Army Air Force and members of the American Legion Post 108 Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
