Joan Douglas

Joan H. "Joanie" Douglas, 87, of 11 Edna Avenue Bradford, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018, at The Pavilion at BRMC.

Born May 17, 1931 in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late James Joseph and Anna (Griffith) Higie. Joan was a 1949 graduate of St. Bernard School.

On January 5, 1957 in St. Bernard Church she married John Andrew Douglas who died July 23, 1974. 

Joanie had been employed by Jim Wolfe at Forest Oil Company as a secretary. She worked at the University of Pittsburgh @ Bradford in the Social Sciences Department, retiring after 23 years.

She was a lifetime member of St. Bernard Church,

Surviving is one daughter, Ann E. Newcombe, of Bradford, two sons Robert P. (Kim) Douglas, of Bradford, and Daniel T. (Joanna) Douglas of Raleigh NC, one daughter-in-law Kim Douglas of Shelburne VT, seven grandchildren, Katharine Belmont, Andrew Newcombe, Caroline Douglas, Colleen (Joe) Storer, Andrew Douglas, Elizabeth Douglas, and Jack Douglas, one brother, Thomas E. Higie, of Wayne, one sister-in-law Pauline "Boots" Higie of Gibsonia, and several nieces and nephews.

Joanie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son John A. Douglas, one sister Elizabeth Harten, three brothers, James Higie Jr., John Higie and William Higie Sr.

At Joanie's request there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am on Wednesday November 21, 2018 in St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
