Herbert L. "Red" Yeager, 85, of Rew, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at his residence.
He was born in a farm house in Cherry Tree, on March 4, 1933, to the late Herbert and Velma (Westover) Yeager.
Red moved to Wolf Run Road with his parents when he was six months old and lived there till he enlisted into the Army. Upon being discharged from the Army, he immediately moved back to Rew and never left.
He graduated in 1951 from Bradford High School and enlisted in the United States Army as a ballistic technician, and was honorably discharged in April of 1955.
On October 25, 1952, in St. Francis Church he married Nancy Jean (Chesebro) Yeager who preceded him in death on May 12, 2017. They were married for 64 years.
Red was employed at Owens Illinois for 40 years. After retirement he worked for his son Larry from 1991 to 2010, and for his son Rick at his business.
Red enjoyed many things like bowling, the OI Golf League, fishing when he was younger, working around the house, and definitely spending time with the grandkids at Camp Yeager during the summer.
He was active in the Choir at St. Francis Church, served as city secretary for the Bradford Bowling Association, and a board member of the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association for 42 years. He bowled and was the secretary of the Byllye Lanes Monday A League for many years, and bowled in Thursday Night Classic League.
Red is survived by a daughter, Lori L. (Jeff) Covert, of Cyclone, three sons, Rick L. Yeager, of Derrick City, Larry A. (Sue) Yeager, of Rew, and Kevin P. (Noney) Yeager of Rew, eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren, one brother, Bob (Nancy) Yeager, two brother-in-laws, John (Alice) Chesebro, of Coleville and Charles "Chuck" McKeirnan, of Smethport.
In addition to his parents, wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Yeager, and one sister in law, Carole Ann McKeirnan.
Friends are invited to call from 10 AM to 11 AM, Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Hilltop Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM with Rev. Max Simms, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery, with military honors being presented by the United States Army and members of the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 108.
Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the Hilltop Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
