Joan M. Cauvel, 93, of Fullerton Road, Derrick City, passed away Friday, February 5 2021, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Born on December 23, 1927, in Angelica, NY, she was a daughter of the late Louis Albert and Beulah Annetta (Norton) McHenry. She graduated from Olean High School in 1947.
On February 3, 1951 in Knapp Creek, she married Lawrence C. Cauvel Jr., who preceded her in death on June 28, 2019.
Joan was employed for 42 years at Olean Wholesale co-op, she retired from the Human Resources Department as the Executive Secretary.
She enjoyed hosting get togethers, family reunions, and parties. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, cross-stitch, and baking pies.
Joan was a member of the Knapp Creek United Methodist Church for 70 years. She led Sunday School and Youth Groups, and was a den mother for Boy Scouts. After retirement, she volunteered at the American Cancer Society office in Bradford. She was a member of the Landmark Society and Genealogy Club, Duke Center Lions Club and Christian Women's Association.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce E. (Robin) Cauvel, of Derrick City, Gary (Julie) Cauvel, of Marshburg, five grandchildren, Kelley (Brian) Clark, Laura (Patrick) Hickey McCartney, Melissa (Jacob) Canaan, Matthew Cauvel, Michelle (Steven) Cavagnaro, one sister, Mary Beth (John) Habbersaw, of Rochester, NY and one brother, David B. (Sherry) McHenry, of Rochester NY, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence of 68 years, one sister, Judith Conner, and one brother, James McHenry.
Friends are invited to livestream the funeral service on Tuesday February 9, 2021, at 11:00 am. The funeral services will be held with Rev. Paula Grucza, Pastor of the White Chapel Balm Charge of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park.
