Geraldine M. Cookson

Geraldine "Gerry" M. Cookson, 96, formerly of  25 Charlotte St., Bradford and most recently the Pavilion at BRMC, passed away Tuesday February 23, 2021.

Born on April 13, 1924 in Cyclone, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Myrtle(Lowman) Frick.

On December 5, 1944 in Cyclone, with the Rev. McCart and Rev. Ernie Davis officiating, she married Harold Robert Cookson who preceded her in death on May 25, 2002.

Geraldine attended schools in Cyclone, Smethport, and Bradford, and graduated from Bradford High in 1942.

She went to work at Kendall Refinery in the Control Lab from 1942 until 1957. She worked for Bells Supermarket in the bakery from 1976 until her retirement.

Geraldine was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bradford where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, Esther Circle, Wimodausis, and assembled the monthly Tower Notes. She belonged to the swimming girls of the YMCA, Fifty Plus, the Bradford Senior Club, and a charter member of Kinzua Quilters Guild.

She enjoyed baking and quilting, and knitting and crocheting booties and hats for babies in neonatal units. She loved talking about and sharing pictures of the many birthday and wedding cakes she made for people in the area.

Geraldine is survived by a daughter, Linda (Harold) Skaggs, of Bradford,  two grandsons Brian Skaggs, of Bradford and Chad (Roxana) Skaggs, of Alexandria, LA, four great-grandchildren, Layne, Naomi, Viktor, and Kira Skaggs, a sister-in-law, Gladys Frick, of Custer City, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents,her husband, one sister, Arlene (Richard) Crumley of Gaithersburg, MD, and two brothers, Ivan (Erla) Frick of Bradford and Clifford Frick of Custer City.

A private memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Bradford Area Public Library or the Bradford Senior Center.
