Ernest Jim Hanson

Ernest "Jim" Hanson, 90, of Soddy Daisy, TN, formerly of Derrick Road, Bradford, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021, at his residence, with his family by his side. 

Born November 11, 1930 in Bradford, he was a son of the late Harry B. and Margaret (Wilson) Hanson. 

He attended Bradford High School before joining the United States Air Force. 

On November 24, 1973 in Bradford, he married Janet (Campbell) Hanson who died February 1, 2019.

After the service Jim worked as a brick layer for many years for D. Griffin & Son. Jim later worked as a building maintenance engineer for Penn Bank, from where he retired. For many years he was a salesman and stockman for the Ford Gum Ball Company.
  
Jim was an avid model railroader and enjoyed completing large jigsaw puzzles. As part of his membership with the Bradford Township Lions Club, he filled and maintained the Club’s candy machines throughout Bradford for many years and served twice as President. He was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the Bradford American Legion and the VFW. A gregarious man, Jim enjoyed socializing with anyone who would take a minute to talk to him; playing golf and poker; and watching Buffalo Bills football. More than anything else, Jim’s favorite pastime was spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Douglas) Bunk of Soddy-Daisy, TN; three sons, Kevin Hanson of Lexington, SC, Shawn (Dawn Prosser) Murphy of Bradford, PA; and Shayn (Linda) Murphy of Bradford, brothers Jay (Phyllis) Hanson of Cheektowaga, NY and Gary (Joanne) Hanson of Rocky Face, GA; grandchildren Phillip Bunk of Salome, AZ, Denise (Michael) Bunk-Hatch of Portville, NY, Todd (Shanae) Hanson of Watertown, NY, Christopher (Kristin) Brady of Bradford, Megan (Anthony) Bevacqua of Bradford, Jadyn (Elijah Saucer) Murphy of Erie, Joe Keyes, Danielle Keyes, Tiffany Morenzoni, and Kayleigh Morenzoni, and many great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Mikki Miller, one great grandson Leroy F. Brady, one brother, Dale Hanson, and one sister Nancy Tanesky.

Private visitation will be on Thursday March 4, 2021, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., at 1:00 p.m. funeral services will be held with Pastor Zoe Hatcher of Open Arms Church officiating. Military Honors by members of the United States Air Force and the Honor Guard from the American Legion Post 108 will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
