Shirley Whiteman

Shirley Whiteman, 91, of Rixford, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Cent

Born on August 29, 1930, in Westline, she was a daughter of Daniel A. and Vesta Queen Stroup Sr. 

Graduating in 1948, Shirley was in the last graduating class of Mount Jewett. 

After high school, on Sept. 11, 1948, she married the love of her life, Donald J. Whiteman in Olean, NY. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2001.

Shirley enjoyed being the homemaker and mother for their 15 children. She was the neighborhood mom. She took pride in babysitting her grandchildren.
She loved to read, work puzzles and garden.

She is survived by 11 children, Richard Whiteman of Portville, N.Y., Robert (Denise) Whiteman of Duke Center, Daniel (Connie) Whiteman of Mesa, Ariz., Jeffrey (Linda) Whiteman of Orlando, Fla., Terry Whiteman of Rixford, Linda Shick of Olean, N.Y., Karen (Robert) Craft of Bradford, Marvin (Linda Monroe) Whiteman of Allegany, N.Y., Tina Whiteman of Bradford, Marcie Schellhammer of Bradford and John (Sarah) Whiteman of Ridgway; two daughters-in-law, Juliet Whiteman of San Pedro, Calif., and Betty Whiteman of Angier, N.C.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Thursie Rigard of Rustburg, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Carol Stroup of Mount Jewett and Betty Owoc of Bluefield, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Whiteman was preceded in death by four children, Nancy Whiteman in 2006, James Whiteman in 2013, Steven Whiteman in 2016, and David Whiteman in 2019; two daughters-in-laws Frances Patrick and Rosemary Whiteman, her siblings Dulcie Kahle and Karen Owoc, and Wade, Danny, John, Gail, Marvin, David, Steve and Brian Stroup.

The public is invited to a visitation on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Home, Inc., 372 East Main St., with a service to follow with Rev. Rick Price, Pastor of Derrick City Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be held in the McKean Memorial Park.
