To the family of Josephine "Josie" Smades, I am very sorry to hear of your dear mother''s passing. I went to school with her son Ira B. Smades, Jr. at St. Bernards School and BCCHS class of 1967. Mrs. Smades was always a pleasure to talk with, and I enjoyed our visits. I remember her always helping with activities at school. She was always so kind and funny and helpful. My prayers and thoughts are with you all. God Bless You All.
— Kathy (Hannon) Symington

Ira, Tina, Joel and Sam, my condolences to you and your families. Loves your Mom. She knew Joe from years ago and was ironic that we would live again on the same street. I have such fond memories of being neighbors on Abbott Rd. Prayers to you all.

To all the Smades family, I am so sorry to hear of Josie''s passing. She was like a sister to my mom. They were friends for ages. And what a lot of fun they had together. Here''s just one story: your mom brought a sports coat of your dad''s that she hated to the church rummage sale to finally get it out of the house. My mom bought it, took it to the Downbeat restaurant and asked the owner to call your dad and tell him he''d left it on the coat rack. :) She was so kind to me always and so great to talk to. I pray that good memories will bring you comfort. May she rest in Christ''s peace, united with so many dear friends and family members again.

Ira, Tina, Joel, Sam & Judy...wish I could be there Friday. Always loved Aunt Josie...her humor, her wit, and her "cashmere and pearls" advice. Her stories about how she and mom shared a room always made me smile. I''ll miss her. Love and hugs...
— Joette

Joel sorry to hear of your mom''s passing, she always would speak when I would walk by the house.
