Thomas S. Day

Thomas S. Day, 57, formerly of Sherman Street, Bradford, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home after a long illness.

Born on Nov. 27, 1963, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Robert Samuel and Lois Isabelle (Ginn) Day who survives.

He attended Floyd C. Fretz Junior High and graduated from the Bradford school system.

Tommy competed in McKean County Special Olympics for bowling, softball and track. He was also a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension.

Tommy worked at Futures Rehabilitation Center for 35 years as an assembler. While at Futures, during the holidays, Tommy and his girlfriend, Tracy Carson, played the role of Santa and Mrs. Claus by traveling through the workshop and providing candy to the individuals. He enjoyed a full and varied life by traveling with his family, participating in community events and generally making many people happy through his hugs, handshakes and kisses.

Of special importance to Tommy were his performances in the Kiwanis Kapers benefit shows where he performed in a variety of skits and musical roles for many years. He and his family were grateful that Kiwanis Kapers gave him the opportunity to get on the stage at a time, initially, when performances by people with disabilities were not common. His performances helped pathe the way for other special needs individuals to participate in Kapers’ productions.

He was a true ambassador for the local special needs population.

Surviving in addition to his mother Lois, who loved him dearly and provided care for him most of his life, are four sisters, Kathy "Kate" (the late Roger) Sager of Bradford, Carol (Rand) Feura of Santee, CA, Judith (Thomas) Biggins of Norwood, NJ, and Laura (George) Puvel of Thurmont, MD,; three brothers, Kenneth (Jean) Day of Reistertown, MD, Robert (Darling) Day of Olean, NY, and John (Tammy) Day of Bliss, NY,; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his father, Sam, and his brother-in-law, Roger, he was preceded in death by one niece, Samantha Puvel, and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service for Tommy will be held on Saturday (Nov. 6, 2021), at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 26 Chautauqua Place, where friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by services at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Stacey Fussell, Rector.

The service will be livestreamed on Facebook (Episcopal Church of the Ascension-Bradford) and YouTube (Ascension Bradford.)

Burial will be in Thompson Hill Cemetery in Warren County.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Bradford, P.O. Box 183, Bradford; to Futures Rehabilitation Center to fund activities for participants, 1 Futures Way, Bradford; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Our hearts were sadden when we heard about Tommy’s passing away. He was one of a kind and unknown numbers of people. I can still see and hear Tommy singing “Amazing Grace”. Whenever I saw Tommy he would say “in the pool “ which was a private joke between him and me. One thing I know for sure is Tommy is dancing perfectly today before The Lord Jesus Christ. Judy and I will miss him so much. We pray for God’s comfort and blessings on all the family.
