Linda N. South
Linda Newton South, 73, of Harding Avenue, passed away on Tuesday November 2, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Oct. 15, 1948, in High Point, NC, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lillian (Carrick) Newton.
Linda was a 1966 graduate of Trinity High School, in Trinity NC.
On June 17, 1967, in High Point, NC, she married Robert W. South, who survives.
Linda first worked for many years at the Davis Bakery before beginning her 30-year career at McKean County Visiting Nurses Association, first as a Home Health Aide and then Office Administrative Staff. She also worked as a private duty Home Health Aide for many families in the Bradford Area. She was an activity aide for the Bradford Manor. She was instrumental in helping to bring the Voice Care service to McKean County and co-facilitated a local Bereavement Group for several years.
She was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church, and a long-time member of the Francis Sherman Axillary of the VFW Post 212. One of Linda’s greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially during family dinners and vacations to Holden Beach, NC.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Robert, of 54 years, are three sons, Robert (Amy) South of St. Johnsbury, VT, Bradley (Gigi) South, and Brian (Jennifer) South of Bradford; five grandchildren Sierra (Danny) Elhers, Hannah (Cheyenne) Chavis, Audrey South, Lillian South, and Lucas South; and three great-grandchildren, Lacey, Scarlett, and Jeremiah, two brothers, Jim Newton and Allen Newton, both of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bill Newton, and Gary Dale Newton, and two sisters, Patricia Osborne and Marlene Cannon.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. In the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc, 372 E. Main Street, where funeral Service will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. with Rev Max Sims, Pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating.
