Mary Lou "Hooty" Irons

Mary Lou "Hooty" Irons, 76, of Rt 446, Eldred, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Bradford Regional Medical Center, while in the company of family.

On October 29, 1945, Olean, NY, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Vanyo) Campbell.

Hooty was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School in 1964, and St. Bonaventure University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree, and the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her Master’s Degree.

On January 18, 1969, in St. Raphael's Church in Eldred, she married James E. Irons, who survives.

Mary Lou was a teacher with the Port Allegany School District for 25 years.

She was a member of St. Raphael's Church Eldred.

Surviving in addition to her husband Jim of 59 years are two sons, James (Jennifer) Irons, of Warriors Mark, and Michael (Laura) Irons, of Newington, CT, four grandchildren, Reagan Irons, Drew Irons, Cole Irons, Cade Irons, Jake Irons, one sister, Yvonne Stowell, of Mt. Morris, one brother, Carl Joe (Joanne) Campbell, of Eldred, and many nieces and nephews.

Hooty was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Heather M. Irons, who died May 28, 1984, and one sister, Carol Crawford.

Friends will be received on Monday, December 13, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. 372 East Main Street, where at 11:00 am funeral services will be held with Fr Jim Gutting, Senior Associate of St. Bernard Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery in Port Allegany.

Memorial contributions, if desired may be made to the World War II Museum in Eldred, or the SPCA.
