Jean S. Salter

Jean S. Salter, 91, formerly of 194 Constitution Avenue, and Bradford Ecumenical Home, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022, at Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born May 17, 1931, in Paradise, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Orel (Douthit) Shovestull.

Jean was a 1949 graduate of Bradford High School.

On September 17, 1949, in Bradford, she married Robert A. Salter who preceded her in death on September 8, 2004.

Jean began her work career at Campbells Supermarket in East Bradford, she also worked at Acme and Harvest Markets, Northwest Bank and Sentry Home Center, she retired in 1993.

Jean was a lifetime member of the East End Presbyterian Church before its closure. She then joined the Asbury United Methodist Church. Jean was 50+ year member of The Order of Eastern Star Lodge Chapter 61.

Surviving are two children, Doris (Jay) Jean Garvin, of Hanover, and Robert J. Salter, of Manchester; six grandchildren, Joel Garvin, Jeremy Venanzi, Robbie Rettger, Shanna Ridgely, Joshua Pirrung and Nikki Baughmann; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob of 54 years, one daughter Susan Hannah, and one grandson Jason Venanzi, one sister, Rheda Freeman, and one brother Jack Shovestall.

Family will receive friends on the Thursday September 15, 2022, from 10 AM to 11:00 AM in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Avenue at which time funeral and committal services will be held with Rev. Max Miller, retired Methodist minister officiating. Burial will be in Knoxdale Cemetery in Brookville.

Memorial contributions if desired may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
