Brenda Douglass-Thorne, 90, of Lecanto Fl, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at her daughter's residence who was by her side when she passed.
Born May 5, 1935, in Sunderland, England, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Clough) Cowen.
She was a 1952 graduate of Saint Bennetts Catholic School in Sunderland England.
On June 7, 1954, in Sunderland UK she married William Edward Douglass who preceded her in death. She and her husband moved to the United States in 1966 and settled in Wilmington NC where she worked as a dental hygienist. In 1971 she moved to Bradford, where she was employed at JC Penny Department Store.
On February 11, 1980, she married G. Derek Thorne, and they resided in Lecanto Fl. He preceded her in death in on July 4, 2025. She enjoyed many things throughout her life but always enjoyed a good game of Domino's. She loved to travel and enjoyed the many cruises they took. She was a member of the British American Club in Lecanto FL.
Surviving is one daughter, Christine (Greg Ulyan) Hannon, of Bradford, two sons, Peter (Suzan) Thorne, and Ian Thorne, both of England, nine grandchildren, Melissa Hannon, Kylie (Seth) McCleary, Robert Hannon, and William "Joey" (Bethany) Hannon, Chloe (Rob) Howard, Noah Thorne, Luke Thorne, Ethan Thorne, and Ben Thorne, five great-grandchildren, Jessica Hannon, Abby (Aaron) Stives, Griffin McClearly, Reid McCleary and Thomas Howard, three great-great-grandchildren, Adalynn Stives, Grayson Lundy, and Ayden Stives, one sister Margaret Gustard of England, and many nieces and nephews as well as brother and sister in-laws in England. She had many good friends in the US and UK.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one son-in-law, Joseph G. Hannon, one great-grandson, Robert Douglass Hannon, and one sister, Valerie Raven.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass 8:00 am on Wednesday February 11, 2026, in the Devine Chapel at St. Bernard Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
