Raymond D. Miller Sr.

Raymond D. “Darel” Miller Sr., 89, of 271 Derrick Road, Bradford, passed away Friday, June 6, 2025, at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh.

Born May 16, 1936, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Alfred R. and Verna E. (Frantz) Miller. He graduated from Bradford High School.

On January 25, 1958, in the Derrick City United Methodist Church, he married Kathryn (Morey) Miller, who passed October 20, 1989. In October of 1991, he married Lillian (McCauley) Miller who passed away July 13, 2020.

Darel was an owner/operator of a trucking company, then apprenticed as a Machinist for several years and became a Journeyman Machinist and member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1644, where he served as Shop Steward. His career started at Bovaird and Seyfang and later at Jarrett's Machine Shop until he retired. Tired from sitting around he began working as a clerk at Valu Home Center in Bradford. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary until 2013.

Darel enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and going to radio controlled airplane shows. He was affectionately known as the "Eggman" at the Bradford Mall. He proudly boasted about his “Miller’s Farm Fresh Eggs” and his chickens.

He was a member of Overcomers Church of Faith in Aiken.

Surviving is one daughter, Susan (David)  Hazlett, of Bradford, two sons, Raymond (Kathryn) Miller, Jr., of Bradford, and Steven (Lesley) Miller, of Derrick City, one step daughter, Darlene M. Covert, of Eldred, 11 grandchildren, Jeremiah (Sarah) Miller, Amy (Tanner) Danielson, Karley (Carson) Kepler, Brianna (Jacob Sirline) Miller, Steven (Brittany Skillman) Miller II, Stacy Hazlett, Amanda (Robert Jr.) Hargett, Ashley (Trevor) Ploetz, Heather (Chad) Reed, Ralph (Diana) Covert, Jr., Robert (Vicki) Covert, one sister Myrtle Mae Miller, and many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

Darel was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, one great granddaughter, Charlotte Kay Kepler, three brothers, Herb, Floyd, and Merle Miller, and two sisters, Dorothy Burns and Selma Miller.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 1 pm in the Overcomers Church of Faith, where a Celebration of Darel's Life will be held at 2 pm with the Rev. J.R. Covert, pastor, officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
