Virginia M. O'Brien

Virginia M. O'Brien, 94, of West Washington Street, formerly of Rockland Ave., passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving children, at Olean General Hospital. 

Born February 9, 1932, in Bradford she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Leonora A. (Derrick) Quirk. She was a 1950 graduate from St. Bernard School.

On September 8, 1956, in St. Francis of Assisi Church she married John E. "Jack" O'Brien who died October 14, 2004.  

Virginia worked for Emery Hardware, and later for 19 plus years as a cashier at CVS until retiring in March of 1994. 

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, and Rosary Altar Society, enjoyed gardening and her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving is one daughter Mary (Ken) Schenfield of Bradford,  two sons, Mark (Sue) O'Brien and William (Toni Magnetti) O'Brien, 10 grandchildren, Scott (Janelle) O'Brien, Todd (Gretchen) O' Brien,Bridgette (Chris) Horvath, Heather (George) Bailey, Kelly (Mikayla) O' Brien, Sara (Dustin Holley) Burgess, Erin O'Brien, Matthew O'Brien, Kaleb Schenfield, Luke O'Brien, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, and two sons Thomas O'Brien, and Dennis O'Brien, three brothers Jack Quirk, Jim Quirk, and Bill Quirk, and one sister Helen Smith.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 11 am on Tuesday July 21, 2026 in St. Bernard Church, with Fr. Edward Walk as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. 

Memorials if desired may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
